Stationery and Planning

I just reignited an old obsession I had while in college.

Stationery.

Stationery has been one of those on and off obsessions I have had all of my life. I always liked pens, pencils, paper, and journals. I have to give my dad credit for introducing me to fancy pends and pencils in my youth. I used to play around with his pens and take them apart and put them back together. Eventually he would get new pens and I would occasionally get his older pens.

Fast forward to when I was in college and attempted bullet journaling. My mom always encouraged creativity so we would go to the craft stores together to grab stationery supplies. I got all of the fancy markers and pens and dot grid journals. I used to use a ruler to make my lines and draw my own calendars and decorate them with little drawings and stickers. Eventually college and life became intense and I fell off of the whole bullet journaling thing and began to use my phone and sticky notes to track things such as deadlines and and birthdays. It was not the most aesthetically pleasing thing but it worked.

Last year, I started following more content creators who journal. I kept hearing about The Hobonichi Planner series. I decided not to get one and stick with my usual digital calendar and sticky note system.

Earlier this year I decided to get a planner. The Hobonichi planners were still in the back of my head but I decided that I could buy one for 2027 if I stay consistent with the planner I currently have. I like the planner I currently have but I did not like all of the extra stuff that came with it. I wanted to be able to make my own sections but I know I would prefer a monthly calendar and weekly format. Basically I wanted a planner that would allow me to be creative, but it would also be set up so I can just fill out information on the days I don’t feel like being creative. The planner is not bad at all, in fact I think it was a great planner to try, it just was not for me. I was consistent with the planning though so I decided that it was time.

This year I bought my first Hobonichi for 2027. I bought the Navy 2027 Hobonichi Weeks! I am pretty excited to receive it in the mail. I have heard nothing but good things about the planner, however as a more skeptical shopper, I decided to do my research. Turns out it is popular because of the paper (Tamoe River Paper), the pretty covers and the layouts. The Tamoe River paper is a special thin paper that is able withstand ink without bleed-through so fountain pen lovers can use this planner.

I purchased this planner and a few other things from JetPens and I can’t wait to look at it and show off my little stationery haul. I hope I can maintain this consistency with the planner however I will always love stationery and will probably enjoy the planner nonetheless.
